Week Day Morning Routine

At the moment, I get myself out of bed at 4:30am – I know, I know, it sounds hectically early, which it is, but it essentially gives me an hour of “me time” prior to my little tornado raising from his slumber between 5:30am-6:00am.

In regards to my morning beauty routine, I’d label it as somewhat ‘simple’
It’s quick, easy, doesn’t involve a tonne of products, and essentially; it gets me looking less death-like and more work-ready in less than 30 minutes.

Now I’ll be honest, my alarm goes off at 4:30am, but me actually exiting my bed with my brain turned on doesn’t tend to occur until 4:40am-4:45am when I’ve been able to pry my eyes open!
I then drag myself to the kitchen, flick on the kettle for a hot cup of tea and toddle my way to the bathroom for the usual morning ‘stuff’ – Tea in hand, I then head down to my beauty room and survey the situation I am dealing with that morning, it usually consists of 3 questions:

  1. Do I really need to wear makeup today? I really couldn’t be bothered..
    Yes
You’re an idiot, at least 15 people will ask you if you are ill before you even arrive at the office.
    Yes
You tried this last week, and you regretted it as soon as you left the house.
    Yes
Stop trying to make the ‘I love my makeup-free-self club’ happen, it’s not gonna happen.
  2. Did I wash my hair last night?
    Yes
Win! Tidy it up and we’re done.
    No
Dry shampoo the shit out of it, chuck it in a somewhat neat bun and hope it looks ‘professional’
  3. How big are the bags under my eyes on a scale of 1-10?
    1-5
We’re good, a lick of the trusty Estee Lauder Doublewear concealer and we’re good to go.
    6-10
Get out the Bright Eyed Illuminating Eye Primer by Mecca Cosmetica and prepare to tackle the Mt. Everest of eye bags.

After hair is sorted, and the level of skin prep work has been established, the routine is fairly simple:

  1. Serum / Moisturiser / Primer
  2. Foundation / Concealer
    • NARS, Sheer Glow Foundation, in Mont Blanc
    • Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer in Light
  3. Setting Powder
    • Australis, Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder, in Natural
  4. Contour / Bronzer
    • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, in Dim Light
  5. Brow Gel
    • Benefit Cosmetics, Gimme Brow Volumising Eyebrow Gel, in 01 Light
  6. Mascara
    • Urban Decay, Perversion Mascara, in Black
  7. Lipstick
    • MAC Cosmetics, Mineralise Lipstick, in Pure Pout

And voila! The result is typically a less-tired looking mumma who managed to put in some effort to her appearance and still show up early to work everyday.. Win!

Here is a preview of what I tend to look like after all the above is complete! 🙂

FullSizeRender 2

Its super quick, super simple & just generally makes me feel a little better about myself when I leave the house each morning. I could not live without makeup!

The hair/makeup portion is followed by:- work clothes, shoes, coat & scarf (It’s currently freezing in Sydney, so a coat and scarf are a necessity)
After I’m dressed and my handbag is sorted for work, I wake up my little boy, get him fed, dressed & ready for school and then out of the house I go…

Night Routine‘ (which is essentially the same as my morning, let’s be honest, I am a creature of habit)
Or maybe a ‘Whats in my #mumlife Handbag
