Week Day Night Routine

What does a ‘normal’ night look like for me at home as a full-time working mum of a toddler, with my mum & husband at home??

You are about to find out… πŸ™‚

So my mum (who lives with us) picks Leo up from school when she finishes work and takes him home, they get about an hour together of just Nan & Leo time which they love [I’m pretty sure Leo loves his Nan more than he loves his mum lol!]

Around 4:00-4:30pm Rick tends to waltz through the door from work and receive a very excited greeting from Leo involving running and a bear hug… (It is so god damn cute to witness!)

Rick then comes to the train station to pick me up, which is usually between 5:00-5:30pm as I come from the city and it takes me a while to get home.
On a normal day, I leave work around 4:00pm πŸ™‚

Once we’re all home, and I’ve (sometimes) received my excited-bear-hug-greeting from my little man, we get straight into our afternoon/night routine with Leo, dinner, bathing, bed etc

Lately, we have been eating dinner early (around 6:00pm) so that we can all eat together, Leo included, as he tends to be fussy around dinner time and if we’re all eating, he just gets on with it and eats whatever is on his high chair, which is awesome!
He is a fussy/picky eater, (which is not a surprise as I was a difficult child and refused to eat anything that was green or healthy looking haha, I’m getting some karma here!)

So a typical dinner for Leo at the moment is either chicken, pizza (cheese and bacon with the topping scraped off… I told you he was fussy lol), pasta or lamb. Followed by cut up fruit (typically peaches, his current fave) and some custard or yoghurt for desert.
It all depends on what we’re having as well, as sometimes he’ll just eat off our plates and join in on the family dinner haha πŸ˜›

We have a dinner schedule at the moment, where we have a fortnight worth of dinners assigned to a particular day of the week – and we each cook 2 dinners, followed by 1 takeout dinner. We don’t always have take-out each week. But leaving our Friday night free to choose whatever dinner we like is nice πŸ™‚
And also, I am still a fussy eater and don’t eat seafood, which both my mum and Rick do, so Friday nights leave that open for them to have that and me to have whatever else πŸ™‚

So we have lately been eating dinner at 6:00pm, followed by Leo having a bath / shower at 6:30-6:45pm.
Since I am pregnant at the moment, shower duty is Rick’s job as I can’t get up/down as easily as normal to shower Leo and pick him up etc
So I will usually clear the table and do the dishes whilst Leo is being washed.

Once he’s all clean and had his nudie run around the house (nightly ritual LOL!) he gets all dried and dressed ready for bed.
Depending on the time, we sometimes give him a bit of playtime, then its bottle and bed.
We all give cuddles and kisses, and say goodnight to the little monkey and he goes to bed with his bottle, teddy and white noise music playing in his nursery (he loves it!) πŸ™‚

Once he’s asleep, it’s free time for mum & dad, thank goodness!
At the moment, this involves Rick studying for his work course, and me & my mum sitting on the couch with a cup of tea watching The Block or The Bachelor (depending on the night of the week) πŸ˜›

Last stop before jumping into bed is the bathroom to wash my face, do my skin care, brush my teeth & floss πŸ™‚
Once in bed, I typically do some work on my blog & catch up on my social media for the day; and of course, catch up with my husband as we barely get a conversation in during this whole process of the night-time.

I tend to shower in the morning now as it helps get me up and fully awake for the day which is super helpful on these cold & miserable Sydney mornings. So I’ve cut showering out of my night-time routine which means I can just kind of ‘chill’ at night instead of the whole washing my hair & blow drying it or waiting for it to air dry before I can go to bed, and mostly so I can get myself into bed earlier lol.

Since being pregnant, I’m in bed and asleep by 8:30pm at the latest – I am just exhausted from the train travel, work, Leo and everything else going on in our life, I am such a grandma! πŸ˜€

Then once that’s all over, I wake up in the morning and start all over again!
I hope this wasn’t too boring for you guys and provided a little insight into my life a bit πŸ™‚
