Let’s be real…
The first four weeks of being a new mum, whether its your first time, your second time or your onto your 5th baby and are a veteran – Being in the newborn daze of the ‘fourth trimester’ is like navigating a minefield of hormones, nappies, learning the cries and loving on your baby.
It’s amazing, terrifying and a rollercoaster of emotions all at once <3
I’m a big believer that having another persons recommendations, tips & tricks or just knowing what other mumma’s are doing out there is always going to lend a hand and be useful in the long run ๐
So here are my must-haves to have on hand during those first few weeks with a new baby in your home… ๐
For Mumma’s
- Compression Leggingsย
Whether you had a natural delivery or a c-section – Mumma needs support!
I cannot swear by compression leggings more. They helped me feel all held together and kept in one place. The whole jiggly situation after having a baby legitimately made me feel nauseous every time I took a step. So these babies saved me!
My Recommendations
– CottonOn Body Active Core 7/8 Leggings
– SRC Postpartum Recovery Leggings
– RunFaster High Waisted Black Beauty Leggings - Double Breast Pump & Bra
Get your hands on a double pump, that’s compatible with a bra.
Double pumping with 2 hands free is your ultimate companion when you’ve got shit to do around your house, a newborn to look after and potentially other kids to deal with.
My Recommendations
– Mamma Baby Care Double Pump w/ Bra Combo - Beautiful PJs
Definitely a must-have for late night feeding. Whether its hot or cold for you, being up during the night feeding your bub is a lot of work, so being able to slip into some beautiful PJs to help you feel a little more like yourself is always a good thing.
(Something luxurious and pretty to put over your ugly breastfeeding bra is always a good pick-me-up ๐ )
My Recommendations
– Anything from Peter Alexander - ThermoGel Breast Pads
To soothe those sore boobs/nipples when breastfeeding.
The cold ones came in SO handy for me as my nipples were throbbing in the early days of breastfeeding.
And having the multi-use kind was also good, as you can use them warm to stimulate milk production ๐
My Recommendations
– Avent ThermoPads
– BodyICE Breast Pads
For Bubba’s
- Love to Dream Swaddles
Swaddling is a lifesaver at keeping bub asleep for longer and to help recreate the ‘in the womb’ feeling for them.
I cannot recommend the Love to Dream swaddles more! They are absolutely incredible, and worked so well for me and my newborn.
I tried many other brands, but these were the only ones that I fell in love with!
My Recommendations
– Love to Dream Swaddles - Bonds Zippies
2-way zip, hand and feet covers and the cutest patterns/designs ever.
What more could you ask for from an outfit for a newborn! ๐
My Recommendations
– Bonds Zippies - Capsule with Pram Adapters
Not for everyone. But having a capsule that clicks in/out of your car with ease, and attaches to your pram – AMAZING!
I could not have survived the first few weeks at home with bub, without having the freedom to go somewhere and be able to easily click him in/out of the car and not need to wake him up ๐
My Recommendations
– Nuna Pipa KLIK Isofix Capsule
(Compatible with Bugaboo, BabyBee, SilverCross strollers) - Baby Carrier
While planning to have a toddler and a newborn, definitely having a baby carrier was high on my priority list of things I NEEDED.
Having 2 hands free to wrangle my toddler, whilst keeping bub happy and close to me – double win! ๐
My Recommendations
– Baby Jogger Juno
– ErgoBaby 360
Obviously, there are a million different things you need/want/use when you have a newborn at home for the first 4 weeks.
But these are just my definite MUST HAVES.
Do you have anything to add to my must-haves?
Or something you think will definitely help me out in my first 4 weeks with bub?
