Alright ya’ll, don’t get too *excited* about this blog post lol
I am by no means a ‘healthy’ person or someone with inspirational meal-prepping skills. Or even someone who relatively eats what they should to provide nourishment for their body.
I literally just thought I would give you a little more insight into me, who I am and how I live my life via a ‘my day on a plate’ style blog post 🙂
Now let’s not fluff about and just get straight into the good stuff… The food! 😀
I always start my day with a big healthy bowl of… FRUIT LOOPS!
Let’s face it, I’m a big kid and of course when you’re an adult and have to do your own grocery shopping, you get to pick whatever you want from the cereal isle, and you bet I buy these in every single food shop! 😛
I always follow up my fruit loops with a banana, apple or bowl of watermelon to you know.. balance it out haha
And of course I drink a million cups of tea a day (Tetley’s All Rounder Strong Tea Bags, with 2 sugars and milk) – so that’s a regular add-on to my breakfast above.
Me and snacks, well we get along very well. Going steady and happily married since forever.
I never have a shortage of snacks in my house.. You can ask anyone who visits regularly, they are never disappointed when they see my pantry 😛
Typically some snacks I might reach for in the morning are:
- Toast with Vegemite and Cheese
- Chicken Crimpy Shapes with French Onion Dip
- Carrot Sticks with French Onion Dip
- Fruit (Bananas, Apples, Watermelon, Mandarins etc)
I am so bad with lunch you guys, especially when I’m at home.
Being on maternity leave has definitely not helped in this department either.
I’m not a meal-prepper… I really wish I was but I’m just not.
Its not in my nature to know what I want to eat a week in advance, I can’t eat the same thing everyday and I definitely can’t plan on a Sunday what I’m going to eat the following Friday.
If I do prep, I don’t eat it. Ever.
Sometimes I eat lunch at 11, sometimes I don’t eat lunch til 2pm and some days, I just don’t eat lunch at all and snack all day instead LOL!
But on days that I actually do have what is considered “lunch food” during the hours that are classified as lunch-time (11am-1pm), this is what I usually reach for:
- Pizza Slices
- Toasted Sandwiches (Ham and Cheese or Chicken and Cheese)
- 2 Minute Noodles
- Mac & Cheese
- Soft Boiled Eggs with Toast
Much like my morning snacks, I’m a creature of habit with the snacks on my current rotation, usually in the afternoon I reach for things more on the sugar-y side to boost my energy from the potential food coma of lunch or just to carry me through to dinner time.
[It’s funny, when I think about this is detail, I actually seem to strategically reach for certain things in the morning that might be deemed more ‘appropriate’ for morning food, and then others in the afternoon that people won’t say ‘oh its a bit early for that don’t you think’ lol – Who knew my subconscious was looking out for me like that 😀 ]
Anyways, some of my afternoon snacks may include:
- Bowl (or bag) of salted pretzels
- Biscuits / Cookies (either baked or bought)
- Museli Bars
Dinner is always a good meal. I probably eat way bigger of a portion of food at dinner than you should right before going to bed. But who cares 😛
Typically each fortnight when I write my grocery list, I write a ‘dinners list’ – Which basically covers each night for the following fortnight of what we’ll have for dinner each night, which in turn dictates who cooks and ensures that I purchase everything needed in our shop 🙂
Some of our fave dinners are:
- Chicken and Veges
- Enchiladas (yes we like Mexican food)
- Lamb and Veges
- Roast dinner [Lamb or Chicken] (we try to do at least one a fortnight)
- Meat Pies and Veges
We probably eat take out once a week. Our go-to take out is just our local Chicken shop and we get chicken and chips, usually some fish for Leo etc – So it’s a relatively “healthy” take out option for us.
Other take out food we regularly get are:
- Thai (delivered)
When I read back a lot of what I eat, I realise I must seem like a little kid who gets to run-a-muck in Coles and still eats like a 14 year old. But you know what, I love it haha.
I’m living my best life over here, eating what I want and enjoying every second of it!
No you won’t see any steamed chicken breast with organic broccoli on my plate.
And clearly I am still here, relatively healthy and going about my life. So until I feel its necessary for me to deprive myself of the basic pleasures of food, I’m just gonna continue eating like a kid in a candy store 😛
I hope you enjoyed a little more of an insight into my day-to-day life.
I know it wasn’t overly exciting, ground breaking health advice or even anything remotely close to a ‘meal plan’ that I’m sure most bloggers write about.
But this is my truth and I am damn well happy to share with you guys 😀
Obviously everything that I eat does not correlate into my kids diet.
I feed them things that I do not eat/like because I know it is good for them, and I don’t let them eat everything I eat.
They have well-balanced diets and get all the goodness/nutrition that they require.
But I’m the adult, so I can eat whatever I want 🙂
Let me know in the comments below what you wanna see on my blog next 🙂
