Tatcha The Silk Canvas Protective Primer – Review

I recently picked up this beautiful product to try and I am SO excited. I have heard nothing but good things about Tatcha & this product.
And of course, I am always up to try new products and I love getting your recommendations 🙂

Here’s what the website says about the product..

First Impression

The packaging is so luxe, from the box, to the compact and the little usage disc included. Everything is beautifully made and you can tell they thought of everything.
All Tatcha packaging gets the same response from me, it’s just so pretty.

Swatching a tiny bit of the back of my hand, I can already tell what everyone is raving about, the formula and finish is SO soft and silky. It glides onto the skin like butter, and I think it is going to sit beautifully under my other layers I apply to my face.

First Use – No Makeup

For my first use of this primer, I thought I’d try it on a day that I wouldn’t be wearing makeup, just to see how it sits / soaks into my skin, and how it reacts with my skin type during the day.

I have normal/dry skin and I found that it was actually really nice on my skin, it soaked in nicely, didn’t leave a greasy/shiny film on the surface of my face and just looked nice and polished. I know the product has a “blurring effect” but a lot of primers say that and don’t deliver; well Tatcha delivered! My entire face has been evened out and looks flawless before even applying a slick of makeup.

Second Use – Underneath Makeup

Now for the real test, I used it underneath a full face of makeup, and saw how it assisted with my makeup lasting throughout the day.
Since I have normal/dry skin, I don’t tend to get ‘oily’ much, but if I wear my makeup for 8+ hours, I do tend to get a little shiny on my nose and centre of my forehead; and makeup does tend to move/shift on my face.

So since this claims to keep oil and shine at bay, we shall see with the results..

Makeup applied: 8:30am

Makeup check: 12:00pm

Makeup check: 5:00pm

Review

So in total, I wore the Tatcha primer, 2 days in a row, both for 8+ hours each… IN THAILAND!
On neither day did I end up oily, shiny or need to touch up my powder/blot my face.

I would say that is a successful trial of a new product. It really is such a beautiful product, yes it is on the high end of expensive for a primer that goes ‘under’ your makeup, but if it helps my face last through 8+ hours of running around after my toddler in Thailand heat, I’ll take two! 😀
